These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and MasterProse ("MasterProse," "we," "us," or "our"), the operator of masterprose.com and the associated AI writing platform.
By registering for an account, clicking "I Agree," or otherwise accessing or using the Service, you represent that: (a) you are at least 18 years of age, or at least 13 years of age with verifiable parental or guardian consent; (b) you have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement; and (c) your use of the Service will comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
If you are using the Service on behalf of a company or other legal entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms, in which case "you" refers to that entity.
MasterProse is a web-based AI-assisted book creation platform that enables users to write, illustrate, translate, and export full-length novels and other literary works. The Service includes, but is not limited to:
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We will endeavor to provide reasonable advance notice of material changes.
To access most features of the Service, you must register for an account using a valid email address and password, or by authenticating through a supported third-party provider (currently Google Sign-In). You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep that information updated.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately at support@masterprose.com if you discover or suspect any unauthorized use of your account. We are not liable for any loss or damage resulting from your failure to safeguard your credentials.
Each individual or entity may maintain only one active account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent free-tier limits, payment requirements, or account suspensions is prohibited and may result in termination of all associated accounts.
Your account data — including projects, drafts, and settings — is stored in our cloud infrastructure (Google Firebase/Firestore). While we take reasonable measures to maintain service availability and data integrity, we do not guarantee uninterrupted access or protection against all data loss. We encourage you to export and retain local copies of your work.
MasterProse offers several subscription tiers with different features and usage allowances. Current pricing, tier names, and included features are displayed on our pricing page at masterprose.com. Subscriptions are billed on a recurring monthly basis unless otherwise specified.
All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc., a third-party payment processor. By providing payment information, you authorize MasterProse and Stripe to charge your payment method for the applicable subscription fees. Your payment information is transmitted directly to Stripe and is governed by Stripe's privacy policy; MasterProse does not store your full credit card details on our servers.
Accepted payment methods include major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay, as made available through Stripe's checkout system.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless canceled. You will be charged the then-current subscription rate on each renewal date. We will provide notice of any price changes at least 30 days before they take effect, and your continued use of the Service after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price.
You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Account section of the Service (which accesses the Stripe billing portal) or by contacting us at support@masterprose.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You will retain access to paid features until that date. Canceling a subscription does not delete your account or your saved projects.
All subscription fees are non-refundable except as required by applicable law or as expressly stated in these Terms. If you believe you were charged in error, please contact us within 30 days of the charge at support@masterprose.com and we will investigate. We reserve the right to offer refunds at our sole discretion on a case-by-case basis.
Subscription prices displayed are exclusive of applicable taxes. You are responsible for any sales, use, goods and services, value-added, or similar taxes imposed by any governmental authority on your subscription fees, except for taxes on MasterProse's net income.
MasterProse offers a free tier with limited access to the Service. Free-tier users may generate a limited number of AI chapters and illustrations per account as specified on our pricing page. These limits are enforced server-side and are subject to change.
Exporting finished books in any format (HTML, DOCX, EPUB, PDF) requires a paid subscription or a per-book export purchase. Free-tier users may preview their work within the application but may not download or export formatted files.
You agree not to attempt to circumvent free-tier limits by creating multiple accounts, manipulating browser storage, intercepting API calls, or using any other technical means. Such behavior will result in account termination.
The Service uses third-party large language models (currently including Anthropic's Claude) and image generation systems to produce prose, cover art, interior illustrations, and translations based on your inputs ("AI-Generated Content"). AI-Generated Content is produced algorithmically and may vary in quality, accuracy, style, and originality.
Subject to your compliance with these Terms and applicable law, MasterProse assigns to you all right, title, and interest, if any, that MasterProse may hold in AI-Generated Content produced from your account inputs. MasterProse does not claim ownership of the books, stories, or other creative works you produce using the Service.
You acknowledge that the copyright status of purely AI-generated content is evolving and unsettled under applicable law, including U.S. copyright law. MasterProse makes no warranty or representation that AI-Generated Content is eligible for copyright protection, that it does not infringe third-party rights, or that it is original. You assume all risk associated with the copyright status and use of AI-Generated Content.
MasterProse does not warrant that AI-Generated Content is free from similarity to existing copyrighted works. You are solely responsible for reviewing AI-Generated Content before publishing, distributing, or commercializing it, and for ensuring that your use complies with applicable intellectual property laws.
You represent that any text, descriptions, character names, plot summaries, or other inputs you provide to the Service ("User Inputs") do not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights. You grant MasterProse a limited, non-exclusive license to use your User Inputs solely to operate the Service and generate AI output for your account.
AI-Generated Content is provided "as is." We do not guarantee any particular level of literary quality, coherence, factual accuracy, or suitability for any purpose, including publication. The Genesis 2.0 multi-draft scoring system and other quality tools are provided as aids, not guarantees.
You are solely responsible for all content you create, upload, input, or publish through the Service, including User Inputs and any AI-Generated Content you choose to publish or distribute ("User Content"). You represent and warrant that your User Content does not violate these Terms, applicable law, or third-party rights.
You agree not to use the Service to create, generate, store, or publish content that:
The Service may be used to create fiction intended for adult audiences. Users who generate mature or explicit content are responsible for ensuring such content complies with applicable laws and is appropriately restricted from minors. MasterProse reserves the right to establish content rating requirements for Community-published works.
You agree not to: reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service; scrape, crawl, or systematically download Service content without authorization; use automated bots or scripts to access the Service in ways that circumvent usage limits; attempt to gain unauthorized access to any system, account, or data; or interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.
The MasterProse Community section allows eligible users to publish their works for other users and readers to discover and read. To publish to the Community, you must: (a) hold an active paid subscription at the Professional or Publisher tier (or such other tier as we may designate); (b) have completed the Author's Workshop learning progression; and (c) agree to the Community Publishing terms set forth in this Section 8.
By publishing a work to the MasterProse Community, you grant MasterProse a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display, distribute, reproduce, and make available that work to users and readers of the Community platform, for so long as the work remains published. You retain full copyright ownership of your work. This license does not allow MasterProse to sell your work as a standalone product without your consent.
All Community-published works must comply with Section 7 (Acceptable Use) and any additional content guidelines published by MasterProse. We reserve the right to review any work before or after publication and to remove any work that we determine, in our sole discretion, violates these standards, infringes third-party rights, or is otherwise harmful or objectionable.
MasterProse reserves the right — but not the obligation — to monitor, screen, edit, remove, or disable access to any Community Content at our sole discretion. Users may report content they believe violates these Terms by contacting support@masterprose.com. We will review good-faith reports promptly. Enforcement actions may include warnings, content removal, suspension, or account termination.
You may remove your work from the Community at any time by unpublishing it through your account. Upon unpublishing, your work will no longer be publicly accessible, but copies may persist in backup systems for a reasonable period. Removal of a work does not retroactively affect any Creator Credits already earned prior to removal.
MasterProse subscribers may access Community content as a benefit of their subscription. Non-subscriber access to Community content may require a separate Community Reader subscription at the then-current rate. MasterProse reserves the right to modify Community access terms at any time upon notice.
Eligible Community publishers may participate in the MasterProse Creator Credit Program, which distributes a portion of Community Reader subscription revenue as account credits to authors whose works are read on the platform.
Each calendar month, MasterProse will allocate a Creator Pool equal to sixty percent (60%) of net Community Reader subscription revenue received during that month. The Creator Pool will be distributed among participating authors in proportion to their share of total qualifying read events during the same month. A "qualifying read event" is defined as a user completing a chapter (remaining on the chapter view for a minimum threshold period, as determined by MasterProse). MasterProse may adjust the Creator Pool percentage and read event definitions upon thirty (30) days' notice.
Creator Credits are account credits applied as a discount against the author's next monthly subscription charge. Credits have no cash value, are non-transferable, are not redeemable for cash, and expire if the author's account is closed or subscription lapses for more than 90 days. Creator Credits do not constitute wages, compensation, or employment income. Participation in the Creator Credit Program does not create an employment, partnership, joint venture, or agency relationship between the author and MasterProse.
While Credits currently have no cash value and are applied as subscription discounts, MasterProse reserves the right to modify the Program to include cash payouts in the future. In any such case, MasterProse will comply with applicable tax reporting requirements and may require authors to provide tax identification information. You are responsible for determining and meeting your own tax obligations arising from participation in the Program.
MasterProse reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the Creator Credit Program at any time. Credits earned prior to termination will be honored for a period of 90 days following notice of termination.
The Service — including its software, technology, user interface, branding, logos, trademarks, and all content created by MasterProse (excluding User Content and AI-Generated Content assigned to users) — is owned by or licensed to MasterProse and is protected by copyright, trademark, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service solely in accordance with these Terms. No other rights are granted.
If you submit ideas, suggestions, or feedback about the Service ("Feedback"), you grant MasterProse an irrevocable, perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, and incorporate that Feedback into the Service without any obligation to you.
"MasterProse," the MasterProse logo, and related marks are trademarks of MasterProse. You may not use these marks without our prior written permission.
The Service integrates with and relies upon several third-party services, including:
MasterProse does not control and is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of any third-party service. Your use of third-party services through or in connection with the Service is subject to those services' own terms and privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.
You agree to comply with the acceptable use policies of Anthropic and other AI providers when using the Service. In particular, you agree not to use the Service to generate content that violates Anthropic's Usage Policy, OpenAI's Usage Policy, or similar policies of any AI provider integrated into the Service.
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the Service, you consent to the collection, use, and sharing of your information as described in the Privacy Policy.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MASTERPROSE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
MASTERPROSE DOES NOT WARRANT THAT: (A) THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE; (B) AI-GENERATED CONTENT WILL MEET YOUR QUALITY EXPECTATIONS OR BE SUITABLE FOR ANY PURPOSE; (C) ANY CONTENT WILL BE FREE FROM SIMILARITY TO EXISTING WORKS OR WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR COPYRIGHT PROTECTION; OR (D) DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
You use the Service and rely on AI-Generated Content entirely at your own risk.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MASTERPROSE, ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, PARTNERS, OR SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH: (A) YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE; (B) ANY AI-GENERATED CONTENT; (C) UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO OR ALTERATION OF YOUR DATA; (D) ANY COMMUNITY CONTENT; OR (E) ANY OTHER MATTER RELATING TO THE SERVICE.
IN NO EVENT SHALL MASTERPROSE'S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (A) THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID TO MASTERPROSE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM; OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless MasterProse and its owners, officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your User Content or AI-Generated Content that you publish or distribute; (c) your violation of these Terms; (d) your violation of any third-party right, including any intellectual property right; or (e) your violation of any applicable law.
You may close your account at any time by contacting us at support@masterprose.com. Account closure will cancel any active subscription at the end of the current billing period. We will retain your data for a period of 30 days following closure, after which it will be permanently deleted from active systems (subject to backup and legal retention obligations).
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, engaged in fraudulent or harmful behavior, or for any other reason at our sole discretion. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections 6, 10, 13, 14, 15, 18, and 19 survive termination.
Upon account termination, your Community-published works may remain accessible at MasterProse's discretion. You may request removal of your Community Content prior to or concurrent with termination by contacting support.

These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to the Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Before filing any formal legal claim, you agree to first contact us at support@masterprose.com and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days. Many issues can be resolved quickly and without litigation.
If informal resolution fails, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service (except for claims that qualify for small claims court) shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration shall be conducted in Palm Beach County, Florida, or remotely if mutually agreed. The arbitrator's award shall be final and binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.
YOU AND MASTERPROSE AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN YOUR OR ITS INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS, COLLECTIVE, OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims and may not preside over any class or representative proceeding.
Notwithstanding the above, either party may seek emergency injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent irreparable harm pending arbitration.
